Music
6th Grade Music :
All students in 6th grade will have music for one quarter during their ENCORE rotation. During this time students will explore how to play a variety of instruments (ukulele, keyboard, percussion and bells), learn how to read basic music notation, utilize music technology (Garageband), study aspects of musical theatre and complete an independent music project.
Students interested in performing ensembles like Band, Chorus or Orchestra can join at anytime during the school year. These ensembles rehearse from 7:40-8:20
7th Grade Music:
Students in 7th grade will have a choice to either do Performing Arts Major or Music Minor.
Music Minor in 7th Grade:
Students will have music for one quarter. During this time students will expand their skills on instruments (ukulele, keyboard, percussion and bells), continue exploring basic music notation, utilize music technology (Garageband), study aspects of musical theatre, music genres and complete an independent music project.
7th Grade Performing Arts Major:
Students who are in Band, Chorus and/or Orchestra choose this major to develop a deeper understanding of their instrument and musical ability in an ensemble centered class. This course involves sight reading, musical notation and concepts, historical context of the music being rehearsed, listening skills, and overall enhancing general musicianship. This course is full year and meets every other day.
Eighth Grade Music:
Students engage in a variety of musical activities (technology, performance, composition, listening) that walk them through the history of popular music genres in America such as– African Music, Jazz, Blues, Early Rock, Protest Music, Rap and Hip Hop. Students will have the opportunity to play a variety of instruments such as Ukulele, keyboard, bells and percussion.
Students interested in performing ensembles like Band, Chorus or Orchestra can join at anytime during the school year. These ensembles rehearse from 7:40-8:20
