Welcome Back to School!
Our goal at Keith Valley is to introduce the students to many activities, both individual and team, to encourage enjoyment of physical activity. We also strive to make students aware of the latest trends in physical fitness and how these trends relate to them now and in the future. We stress active participation, cooperation, effort, and preparation for class. We strive to enable each student to meet success no matter what his/her skill level and physical capabilities may be.
PE Overview
Location of class:
This will vary depending on the unit but could be any of the following: Upper Gym, Lower Gym, Wrestling room, Weight room, or Lawn area.
If you should arrive before the teacher, students should be seated/standing in the teacher designated area and should NOT be touching any PE equipment.
Format of Class:
Attendance--->warm-up/workout/fitness--->unit activity (apx. 7 classes/unit)
Medical Excusals:
If a student is not feeling well and does not feel as though they can participate in class, students must provide a note from a parent stating the situation. If the ailment begins after the student has left home, a parent/guardian email excusing the student must be sent from home to the teacher or a note backdating the excusal can be brought to the next class. Otherwise, the student will receive a zero for the day for not participating. If medical excusals continue beyond 1 week of classes, a doctor’s note will be requested of the student.
Attire:
· Students are not required to change, however, a student may change if they’d prefer to wear separate clothes for class.
· All students MUST wear clothes that they are able to move in comfortably and are not limiting to movement.
· All students MUST wear clothes that are not revealing during exercise.
· All students MUST have secure sneakers that can be tied tightly and will not fall off during class. Slides and/or Crocs of any kind are NOT permitted.
· If students are not wearing PE appropriate clothes/footwear.
o 1st UN= warning and no participation
o 2nd UN+ = student will earn a zero for the day with the opportunity to make up the unprepared class during PACE
Grading:
· Each day students can earn up to 20 pts. (10 possible pts. for fitness and 10 possible pts. for unit activity)
· Grades will be averaged for a final PE grade at the end of each unit.
· PE unit grades will be placed in the same gradebook/class in Power School as Health grades.
· Grading begins upon arrival to class and includes warm-up/workout/fitness, and unit activities. Grades are based upon the following:
o Time on Task/Participation
o Skill/Effort
o Behavior/Sportsmanship
Making up a class:
If a student was unprepared for class 2 or more times, he/she has the option to remove the zero from their grade by making up the class by doing the following:
· Get a pass from your PE teacher to go to the weight room during PACE to do your make up
· On that specified day, report to PACE, show your PACE teacher your pass, and report to the weight room.
· Complete apx. 20 minutes on the cardio equipment of your choice (treadmill, bike, etc.)
· Any unprepared classes would need to be made up before the last week of the marking period or they will remain zeros.
Miscellaneous:
Fire Drills and RHF/evacuations
