5/21/21 Community Update

Dear Hatboro-Horsham Families and Staff:

Throughout the pandemic, the District has been committed to reviewing the latest health and safety recommendations from the CDC and public health officials and applying these to policy and practice at the school level. The CDC recently issued revised guidance for masking and distancing that include relaxation of masking guidelines for fully vaccinated people. Since then, the CDC has come out and clarified that they will not be formally updating school guidance prior to the end of the school year. With most students at the secondary level, and all students at the elementary level, not fully vaccinated, the CDC is urging schools to maintain mitigation strategies. This guidance has been reviewed by our Health and Safety committee.

CDC guidance states that unvaccinated people should continue to mask. Effective Monday, May 24, 2021, the following revised school protocols will be in place for masking:

  • Students may remove their masks when engaged in outdoor high-exertion activities during Physical Education classes, recess, and athletics. Masking expectations remain in place for PE and recess when they are held indoors.
  • Students and staff will continue to mask while indoors, except when eating. While eating, 6 feet distancing is maintained.
  • Guests and visitors on campus are expected to adhere to the health and safety plan in place at school. This includes masking while indoors and outdoors.

With community spread of COVID-19 declining and revised CDC guidance for summer camps and programming expected soon, we expect to have revised health and safety guidelines for our District summer programs.

Through this, we continue to plan end-of-the-year culminating events for our students and school communities in the hopes of safely gathering. We look forward to these celebrations with all of you.

Sincerely,

Scott T. Eveslage, Ed.D.

Superintendent
