3/16/21 Community Update and Survey

March 16, 2021

Dear Hatboro-Horsham Families:

Last night, the Board of School Directors approved revisions to the District’s Instructional Program beginning April 6, 2021Hatboro-Horsham School District will switch from its current hybrid instructional model for students in grades 2-12 to a full 5-day onsite model. We will continue to offer a fully remote model for families that prefer it. An overview of these changes was provided at the March 15 school board meeting. A recording of that meeting is available HERE and the PowerPoint presentation on the instructional program changes is viewable HERE.

We are asking the parents/guardians of all students in grades 2-12 to commit to your preferred instructional model for the remainder of this school year. This commitment can be made via a short commitment form/survey available below. The survey is open now through the end of the day (midnight) on Sunday, March 21. Your responses to this survey are important so that we can prepare appropriately for an increased number of students onsite and adjust student schedules and class rosters as necessary.

The link for the survey is HERE. If you have difficulty with the link, you can copy and paste this URL into your browser: https://forms.office.com/r/hA96pb4rgH . Please complete a separate form for each grades 2-12 child in your family.

In moving to a 5-days-per-week model, we will have to relax the 6' physical distancing guideline in most locations, including buses and in classrooms. We will maintain 6' of physical distancing for students onsite during lunch time, snack time, and mask breaks. We intend to maximize distancing in all areas, but will not be able to always maintain a strict 6' standard in a 5-day onsite model. Please note that while this change necessitates reducing the 6' standard we will strictly maintain our other safety measures including masking, hand hygiene, sanitation, and ventilation.

With this change, we will no longer offer a hybrid option where students attend onsite 2-3 days per week and work remotely on the others. Students enrolled in the 5-day onsite option will be expected to attend onsite daily.

If we do not receive a response to the survey, students currently enrolled in a hybrid cohort will be automatically enrolled in the 5-day onsite model, and children currently remote will remain enrolled for remote learning. However, it is helpful to have a response for each student.

A family’s choice to transition between models at the elementary level WILL result in a teacher change. A transition at the secondary level MAY result in a teacher change.

Barring changes necessitated by the prevalence of Covid-19 in the community, this selection will be in place for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year. We intend to offer these same two options for the 2021-22 school year and you will have the opportunity to indicate your preference for next year at a later time.

Thank you for your continued partnership. Please be safe and well.

Sincerely,

Scott Eveslage, Ed.D.

Superintendent of Schools
