2/25/21 Community Update and Questionnaire

February 25, 2021

Dear Hatboro-Horsham Families:

As ongoing planning continues around returning students to more in-person instruction, below is an update on several key topics and a request for your feedback.

Next Steps: Last week, the school board approved the next phase in our return, which included:

  • Returning first grade students to 5 days of in-person instruction per week beginning on March 8. In this model, first grade can be assured 6 feet of physical distancing consistent with CDC guidelines. All first-grade families have been surveyed and their requests for placement have been met. Any adjusted classroom placements for first grade students will be communicated no later than Friday 2/26.
  • Mondays being repurposed to welcome hybrid cohorts for in-person instruction in grades 2-12 on a rotating basis beginning on Monday, March 8. The schedule for the dates of rotation can be found HERE.
  • Childcare services are available on the days of your elementary child’s revised Hybrid Monday schedule. Sign-up information is available HERE.

Public Health Metrics: Numbers are trending downward and are projected to soon move Montgomery County out of the substantial range of transmissionWhile positivity rates and incidence rates in the County currently reside in the substantial range, we are nearing the moderate range per the PA Department of Health and Pennsylvania Department of Education’s metrics. This is significant because as community numbers improve, and we move closer to the CDC’s Moderate Range, risk declines and guidance fodistancing eases, allowing for greater in-person instruction to occur in these circumstances

Family Questionnaire: To assess the interest level in returning students to 5 days of in-person instruction, we are asking all families in grades 2-12 to answer this brief questionnaire available HERE. This information will help us plan for the logistics and feasibility of welcoming more students on site. Distancing and planning will vary depending on the number of students we would expect. Our current hybrid programming is designed to ensure 6 feet of physical distancingwhile returning more students would result in distancing of less than 6 feet, but in all scenarios the 6-foot distancing would be met to the greatest extent possibleThe questionnaire is non-binding but will assist with scenario planning. We ask your completion of the questionnaire by 4:00 pm on Tuesday 3/2.

Resources: These resources may help provide background and context regarding the public health metrics and details of the latest guidance:

  • The PowerPoint presentation from the 2/16 Board Meeting can be found HERE. This includes graphs and visuals for the latest public health metrics and recently released CDC guidelines.
