2/12/21 Transportation and Community Update
February 12, 2021
Dear Hatboro-Horsham Families:
I hope you are well, are enjoying the extended weekend, and staying safe and warm through our recent winter weather conditions. Please note the following important District announcements and updates:
We will be resuming our regularly scheduled transportation services on Tuesday, February 16th. However, we are still experiencing the effects of extended staff quarantines. Most buses and vans will run normally, but a few drivers are still unable to return. Therefore, there will be some limited interruption to our services. You will receive separate communication from the school district if your bus or van transportation will be impacted. If you are not notified directly, your child’s route will proceed as regularly scheduled. We continue to be thankful for the tremendous flexibility of our families in transporting students to school through the transportation hiatus.
School Board Meeting
At the upcoming School Board Legislative/Action Meeting on Tuesday, February 16th at 7:00pm, we will be presenting on the proposed next steps of the instructional model in returning students to additional in-person learning. At the February 1st Board meeting, there was a report on the considerations of these next steps. That meeting can be viewed HERE (report beginning at the 1:10:00 mark).
The Hatboro-Horsham School District will be closed on Monday, February 15th for the President’s Day Holiday. Enjoy the holiday weekend.
Due to the holiday on Monday, food distribution will take place at Keith Valley Middle School on Tuesday, February 16th from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm and from 4:00 pm -6:00 pm.
Possible Disruptions Due to Staff Vaccinations
As some staff members are in the midst of the vaccination process, this will serve to share how we will do our best to accommodate individuals going through the process. At this time, Montgomery County is vaccinating a subgroup of our teachers and staff members who fall into the Phase 1A group. Most of our staff members are in the Phase 1B group and will hopefully be vaccinated in the near future. Whenever vaccines are available, the school district will flexibly provide release time for the teacher/staff member to receive their vaccine. With limited scheduling flexibility, this may be during school hours or on short notice. In prioritizing health and wellness, community-wide vaccination moves us closer to our goals of resumption of regular programming. Despite our best efforts, our district, much like our surrounding districts, is struggling to provide ample substitute coverage for staff. Staffing and the impact on our programming is assessed daily. This includes those who may need to be vaccinated during the day. If this in any way impacts short-term programming, including but not limited to a short transition to asynchronous instruction, these situations will be communicated with families. Because the timing, volume, and impact of this is difficult to predict, we are sharing our stance in seeking your continued flexibility. We are aware of the inconvenience this may cause for families and we will do our absolute best to avoid any unnecessary interruption. However, we also know the importance of getting our community vaccinated. We plan to work flexibly with all those involved, whenever their time for vaccination may be, including teachers, staff, students, and families.
Planned Building Closures this Weekend
Please note that the previously scheduled district closure of our school buildings this weekend will allow for an approved reset of our COVID-19 building case counts. There will be no staff and student activities onsite from Saturday, February 13, 2021 – Monday February 15, 2021, including athletics, activities, and community group access. After President’s Day weekend, we will resume school and activities as scheduled on Tuesday, February 16th.
Thank you for your continued partnership. Please be safe and well.
Scott Eveslage, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
