11/20/20 Community Update
Dear Hatboro-Horsham Families and Staff:
I hope this finds you safe and well. There are a few important updates to share at the end of this busy week.
We know our students and families are coping with the uncertainty of COVID-19 and the need to change and adapt. While rebounding from these changes can increase resiliency in students, these fluctuations can also evoke increased emotions of fear, anxiety, and stress. While we navigate these uncertain times there are several resources to help students and families support social/emotional well-being, which can be viewed HERE. If you feel your child is struggling, please contact your child’s teacher or guidance counselor for ideas and support.
Hatboro-Horsham School District partners with Merakey, a behavioral health agency, to provide counselors and support at the elementary, middle, and high school level. These counselors provide school-based services through the Student Assistance Program (SAP), including prevention lessons, psychoeducational groups, and individual support. If you need immediate mental health support, you can contact the Montgomery County Mobile Crisis hotline. They provide immediate support for crisis situations, and assistance with managing recurring or future crises. Support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-855-634-HOPE (4673). This is a free service available to anyone living in Montgomery County for both youth and adults.
Additional resources and updates are in our SAP November Newsletter, available HERE. It includes tips on helping your child to maintain focus, setting goals during uncertain times, and information on executive functioning. Visit our district site at HHSD Social and Emotional Well-being to find more resources, links, and previous newsletters.
Food Service: The HHSD Food Service department will continue to provide meals for families for free during fully remote instruction. Meals will be available on Monday, November 23rd and Tuesday, December 1st at Keith Valley Middle School from 11am-1pm and 4-6pm for drive-through pickup. We will be distributing multiple meals at each pick-up. If you have transportation issues or any questions, please reach out to Jessica Oldsey at firstname.lastname@example.org
New Travel Orders: Please be aware of the recently updated travel requirements from the Pennsylvania Department of Health. These updated requirements go into effect on 11/20 and call for increasingly restrictive protocols for out-of-state travel. These guidelines can be viewed HERE.
Communication of Cases: During the time of fully remote instruction, it remains important that families continue to communicate with us any COVID-19 information that is occurring with your children and our students. This will help us be informed and equipped when returning students to in-person instruction in a safe and healthy manner. Please contact our COVID-19 School Nurse Liaison, Marguerite Gustafson, RN, MSN, CSN (email@example.com) if your child:
- Has a positive COVID-19 test result
- Has been identified as a close contact to a positive COVID-19 person
- Is being tested for COVID-19 and the results are pending
- Has been given a timeline for isolation or quarantine by a physician, the Pennsylvania Department of Health, or the Montgomery County Office of Public Health
- Has any travel outside of Pennsylvania on or after 11/20. Please be prepared to share:
- The COVID-19 test result upon return to Pennsylvania or
- The date of return to Pennsylvania and the quarantine timeline (if a test was not obtained)
Technology Update: On Saturday, November 21st from 9PM until Sunday, November 22nd at 2AM all district systems will be brought offline for routine maintenance. During this time access to internal systems such as file servers, email and VPN will be unavailable as systems are restarted. If you have issues with access to any systems outside of the maintenance window you can contact the Help Desk Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM at 215-420-5600.
Facility Access: A reminder that consistent with the County order, all HHSD facilities, including schools, district buildings, athletic fields, stadiums, playgrounds, and properties will be closed through December 6. There will be no use of the facilities by outside groups during this two-week period.
Thank you to all the members of our school community for your patience and understanding as we work through this public health and educational challenge. I wish you all good health.
Scott T. Eveslage, Ed.D.
