7/23/20 Community Update

Dear Hatboro-Horsham Families:

I hope this finds you well and your families in good health. We have a few important updates to share with you today.

Families, please take a few minutes to respond to a brief survey about our reopening scenarios and Hatter Academy interest. The link for the survey is: Hatboro-Horsham Hatter Academy and Reopening Scenario Family Survey.

Hatboro-Horsham staff, a similar survey is being sent to you via email. Please take that survey. If you have children in HHSD schools, you can complete the family survey as well.

On Monday July 20, I shared with the board and community the progress of our health and safety plan for school reopening. The presentation included details about specific scenarios we are preparing for and the way learning for our students will be structured within each of those scenarios. The recording of the board meeting is available for you to view, as is the powerpoint presentation itself. Additionally, we have set up aemail account to receive ideas, concerns, and questions about our school reopeningQuestions about the 2020-2021 school year reopening can be directed to reopening@hatboro-horsham.org Please note that these comments will not be read to the public during board meetings.

Additionally, I want to make our whole community aware of our intention to provide a fully virtual optionthe Hatter Academy, for our families that prefer it during the 2020-21 school year. Based on demand, we want to staff this option with our own Hatboro-Horsham teachers. More information will be available to the community soon.

As I mentioned in the presentation on Monday, we will continue to collect feedback from our community to inform our decisions. Today, we ask for your feedback to help us begin to plan for two very important issues. First, we would like to know the current level of support our families have for each of our reopening scenarios. There are more specifics about the possibilities for families to consider now than when we last surveyed our community in June. Second, we want to gauge interest for our online Hatter Academy so that we can begin planning with staff and families.

With the new school year approaching, we want to remind our families that despite our unprecedented circumstances, health mandates for students returning to school have not been relaxed. Requirements for student physicals, dental, and immunizations can be reviewed on our webpage at https://www.hatboro-horsham.org/Page/326 . Additionally, our county Office of Public Health is strongly encouraging everyone to get a flu shot this year.

Thank you for your support and dialogue as we plan for the health and safety of our students and staff. The weeks ahead will be busy, and we will regularly communicate with you as we make plans to start under extraordinary circumstances. While there are challenges, be assured we are excited to welcome our students back and we look forward to resuming the work we love.
