06/12/2020 Community Update
June 12, 2020
Dear Hatboro-Horsham Families,
We hope this finds you healthy and easing into summer. As we approach the end of the school year for students and staff, this will be the last day we will make these regular communications to our community. There will certainly be things to communicate throughout the summer as we receive further information from state and local authorities regarding the guidelines for reopening our facilities. Please note that after today, district-wide community updates like this one will be less frequent and sent on an as-needed basis.
Eighth grade families, a quick reminder that the KV Eighth Grade Celebration Parade is happening on Hatter’s Way by the high school from 4-6 this afternoon. Mr. Kircher sent an email with details earlier this week that provides additional information. Congratulations to our eighth graders and their families!
We are saddened by the tragic deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, and Breonna Taylor. Their deaths have renewed grief that lingers from too many similar tragedies before them. These deaths and our recent social unrest are reminders of the systemic racism and social injustices that continue in our country. We know that many of our students, families, and staff are experiencing trauma related to racial inequality. We have collected resources that can help you to talk with your children about race, as well as support children and families who are experiencing trauma because of racism. These resources can be found at https://www.hatboro-horsham.org/Page/1757.
We know our students and families are all coping with the uncertainty of COVID-19. These can cause emotions of fear, anxiety, stress and more. While we navigate these uncertain times there are resources to help students and families cope with their emotional needs, some of which can be found on our emotional support link: https://www.hatboro-horsham.org/Page/1616. If your child is struggling, contact your child’s teacher or guidance counselor for ideas and supports.
Hatboro Horsham's Student Assistance Program (SAP) is an in-school service to provide support for students experiencing academic, behavioral, and/or emotional difficulties that may pose a barrier for school success. These services include help connecting families to community resources during the school year. Visit our final school year SAP newsletter for resources, links, and information: SAP Newsletter
Families taking part in our Extended School Year program, please take note of the dates and times for device pick up. All device pick-ups will take place at the high school on Monday June 22 from 9:00 – 11:30 am and 12:30 – 3:00pm, and on Tuesday June 23 from 1:00 – 3:30 pm and 4:30 – 7:30 pm.
The PowerSchool Parent Portal will remain open until July 7th and then close for summer maintenance. Please save a copy of your child’s report cards before this date. If you need a copy after this date, please contact your child’s building secretary or email email@example.com . We expect the Parent Portal will re-open on September 1st. Canvas will remain open for the summer with limited access to courses. We encourage all students to visit the library pages in Canvas or on our website https://www.hatboro-horsham.org/site/Default.aspx?PageID=460.
The Hatboro-Horsham School District provides free breakfast and lunch to all school-aged members of the Hatboro-Horsham Community (ages 0-18 years old). HHSD-enrolled students over the age of 18 may also participate. This program is made possible through federal funding, and it is no longer necessary for families to be registered for the free and reduced cost lunch program to have their children take part. We offer a grab-and-go drive through service at Keith Valley Middle School on Mondays (3 days’ worth of meals) and Thursdays (2 days’ worth of meals) between 11am-1pm. The meals are being served in the bus loop around the side of the building. Please do not get out of your car, our staff will put the meals directly in your vehicle. If you have any questions or transportation issues, please contact Jessica Oldsey at firstname.lastname@example.org .
We have put our student registration and withdrawal processes online. For returning families with students already attending schools in Hatboro-Horsham, there is no need to complete registration. This is only for families new to the school district, new to Hatboro-Horsham schools, or new kindergarten students. Student registration can be done online. Please encourage new neighbors to enroll students new to the district. Visit the registration page on our website for information about how to register: https://www.hatboro-horsham.org/registration
In addition to new enrollments, we know there may be families in our community withdrawing from the school district. If you know you will be withdrawing students, please complete the online forms promptly so we can coordinate with you the return of any school district property. Our student withdraw forms can be accessed from the “families” menu on our homepage, or accessed directly through this link: https://www.hatboro-horsham.org/domain/826
Finally, we remind you to please help to keep our community safe by remembering that under the current Montgomery County reopening status of “yellow” ALL HHSD facilities, including schools, district buildings, athletic fields, stadiums, playgrounds, and properties remain closed until further notice. While we look forward to when we can reopen for students and for our entire community, we appreciate your staying clear of school district facilities at this time.
Best wishes for a restful and fun summer weekend to all our HHSD families!
