06/08/2020 Community Update
June 8, 2020
Dear Hatboro-Horsham Families,
Today we celebrate the commencement of the class of 2020, a group of students that has weathered an extraordinary few months, with their senior year disrupted by the pandemic. They are an exceptional group of young adults who have navigated through a profound personal lesson on how unpredictable our lives can be, and how quickly plans can change. We are grateful to the students and staff who worked to put in place ways to honor and celebrate our senior class, and for the hours spent choreographing today’s events and tonight’s commencement ceremony. Please join us in celebrating the class of 2020! The commencement ceremony will air at 6:30 PM. You can watch via our YouTube channel (click this link) HHSD YOUTUBE CHANNEL and on local television on the following stations: Comcast channel 28, and Verizon channel 33. Seniors, you make us proud. Your commencement is a much-needed moment of light and hope for our community. Thank you for your perseverance and grace.
This week, all our buildings are engaged in processes for families to return school resources and retrieve student belongings left when we closed in March. To manage these events in a way that keeps our families and staff safe, they are carefully coordinated. Please be attentive to communications from your building administrators regarding times and guidelines. If you are unsure about the plans for your building, please review recent emails from your principal and reach out to them if further clarification is needed.
As we approach the end of the school year for students and staff, this will be the last week we will make these regular communications to our community. There will certainly be things to communicate in the summer as we receive further information from state and local authorities regarding the guidelines for reopening our facilities. Please note that after June 12, district-wide community updates like this one will be less frequent and sent on an as-needed basis.
Our past several months was marked by a shift to home learning, delivered online. To fully understand how our community, staff, students, and parents are getting along in these unprecedented times, we are very interested in hearing from you about your experiences with home learning. HHSD has partnered with Hanover Research, an independent research firm, to design a short Home Learning Survey that will help us assess the impact distance learning has had on students, families, and staff. This information will also help inform our planning for reopening schools in the fall. The survey is completely anonymous and should take about 10 minutes for you to complete. We thank you for your feedback. This survey will be open through June 12.

Finally, we remind you to please help to keep our community safe by remembering that under the current Montgomery County reopening status of “yellow” ALL HHSD facilities, including schools, district buildings, athletic fields, stadiums, playgrounds, and properties remain closed until further notice. While we look forward to when we can reopen for students and for our entire community, we appreciate your staying clear of school district facilities at this time.
