05/22/2020 Community Update

May 22, 2020
Dear Hatboro-Horsham Families,

We hope that this long Memorial Day Weekend provides you with the opportunity to step away and celebrate in some of the ways you normally would. While some of our routines for celebrating may be disrupted by the stay-at-home directive and the weather will be mixed, hopefully you have an opportunity to distance yourself from the stressors of the past two months. As our school district will observe Memorial Day on Monday, May 25th, students will not have online instruction for that day. Home learning will resume Tuesday, May 26th. Our community updates will resume on the next scheduled day for updates, Wednesday, May 27th.

As we finalize our processes for the end of the year, all families should be attentive to communications from your building regarding end-of-year celebrations, progress reporting, and procedures for returning school resources and retrieving personal belongings from the school buildings. All these processes will be altered by our current circumstances and restrictions, so please be mindful that procedures will be different. Grade 8 families, please read the email from Mr. Ewerth this morning that provides time-sensitive information about the grade 8 awards celebration. Elementary families, you will receive an email today from your building principal describing the process for progress reporting at the end of the third trimester. Because of the unprecedented circumstances of the past few months, the format will look different than is usually the case.

Families using our food service on Mondays and Thursdays, please take note of the adjustments to our schedule for the Memorial Day holiday. We will NOT be serving meals on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25th. We will be open again on Tuesday, May 26th and Thursday, May 28th next week. Food service is available to all children aged 0-18, including currently enrolled HHSD students older than 18. At this time, families do not need to be enrolled in the free and reduced-cost lunch programs to participate.

On Thursday, May 28th the Pennsylvania Department of Education will be pulling the list of families using our free/reduced lunch program for the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT). If you would like to receive this benefit, you must apply for free/reduced meals before that deadline. Specifics about the program can be found at: P-EBT . To apply, visit https://www.schoolcafe.com/.

We are preparing our school buildings to be used as polling places for the June 2nd primary elections. While the polls will be open, we want to remind our community that anyone who is concerned about voting onsite, Pennsylvania is offering a mail-in ballot system, available to any registered Pennsylvania voter. If you wish to vote by mail, you must request a mail-in ballot by Tuesday, May 26th. For information and to request a mail-in ballot, you can visit PA mail-in ballot request

Students who need to apply for a working permit can do so online. Information is on the high school webpage and can be accessed through the “student” tab, or directly at https://www.hatboro-horsham.org/domain/825.

HHSD Technology will be performing routine server maintenance tomorrow evening, Saturday, May 23, 2020 from 9:00 PM until 2:00 AM. Some systems may not be available during this time.

We have put our student registration and withdrawal processes online. For returning families with students already attending schools in Hatboro-Horsham, there is no need to complete registration. This is only for families new to the school district, new to Hatboro-Horsham schools, or new kindergarten students. Student registration can be done online. Please encourage new neighbors to enroll students new to the district. Visit the registration page on our website for information about how to register: https://www.hatboro-horsham.org/registration

In addition to new enrollments, we know there may be families in our community withdrawing from the school district. If you know you will be withdrawing students, please complete the online forms promptly so we can coordinate with you the return of any school district property. Our student withdraw forms can be accessed from the “families” menu on our homepage, or accessed directly through this link: https://www.hatboro-horsham.org/domain/826

We remind you to please help to keep our community safe by remembering that under the current directive issued by the governor to stay-at-home ALL HHSD facilities, including schools, district buildings, athletic fields, stadiums, playgrounds, and properties are closed indefinitely. Our schools will be closed to students through June 16, 2020, our last student day. For the rest of the 2019-20 academic year we will deliver planned instruction online to students in their homes. While we look forward to when we can reopen for students and for our entire community, we appreciate your staying home at this time. Best wishes for a relaxing Memorial Day Weekend!

Thank You,
