05/15/2020 Community Update
May 15, 2020
Dear Hatboro-Horsham Families,
Thank you for another successful week of home learning. As the week closes, we have some news and a few resources to share.
Our planning for the end of the year continues. We know our families have many questions about how students will return to gather belongings and drop off books and devices, as well as the details of what our end-of-year celebrations will look like for our buildings. You can expect to see information about these plans by the end of next week. Thank you for your patience as we look to both ensure the safety of our families and provide a sense of closure for our students.
Related to the close of school, families of eighth grade students, please check your email for an important request from Mr. Ewerth that went home earlier today. This relates to our planning for the grade 8 promotion ceremony. Be sure to review this time-sensitive information soon!
We are preparing our school buildings to be used as polling places for the June 2 primary elections. While the polls will be open, we want to remind our community that anyone who is concerned about voting onsite, Pennsylvania is offering a mail-in ballot system, available to any registered Pennsylvania voter. For students and others looking to register to vote, you must do so by May 18 and can find more information at voter registration. If you wish to vote by mail, you must request a mail-in ballot by May 26. For information and to request a mail-in ballot, you can visit PA mail-in ballot request
Families of seniors, information regarding commencement date, time, and logistics was sent to senior students on Monday through Naviance. This information is personalized to each student so please be sure to retrieve your specifics from Naviance. Cap and gown distribution began today. Information about cap and gown distribution was shared with families last week, and you can also view that communication along with some other commencement details here: https://www.hatboro-horsham.org/Page/1607
Students who need to apply for a working permit can do so virtually. Information is on the high school webpage and can be accessed through the “student” tab, or directly at https://www.hatboro-horsham.org/domain/825.
The work of our food services team has been exemplary over these past weeks of school closure as they have continued to work to provide meals to hundreds of students in our community. The food services department would like to publicly acknowledge and thank several companies for recent food donations. Thank you, Philly Pretzel Factory, Chick-fil-a, The Fresh Market, Grocery Outlet, and Giant Food Store for your generosity and concern for the well-being of the families in our community. We are proud to partner with you during this time of need for our families.
The Hatboro-Horsham School District provides free breakfast and lunch to all school-aged members of the Hatboro-Horsham Community (ages 0-18 years old). HHSD-enrolled students over the age of 18 may also participate. This program is made possible through federal funding, and it is no longer necessary for families to be registered for the free and reduced cost lunch program to have their children take part. We offer a grab-and-go drive through service at Keith Valley Middle School on Mondays (3 days’ worth of meals) and Thursdays (2 days’ worth of meals) between 11am-1pm. The meals are being served in the bus loop around the side of the building. Please do not get out of your car, our staff will put the meals directly in your vehicle. If you have any questions or transportation issues, please contact Jessica Oldsey at firstname.lastname@example.org .
We know our students and families are all coping with the uncertainty of COVID-19. These can cause emotions of fear, anxiety, stress and more. While we navigate these uncertain times there are resources to help students and families cope with their emotional needs on the HHSD emotional support link https://www.hatboro-horsham.org/Page/1616. If your child is struggling, contact your child’s teacher or guidance counselor for ideas and supports. Additionally, families can visit our SAP Newsletter for links and resources from our Student Assistance Program.
With the arrival of some nice weather, we remind you to please help to keep our community safe by remembering that under the current directive issued by the governor to stay-at-home ALL HHSD facilities, including schools, district buildings, athletic fields, stadiums, playgrounds, and properties are closed indefinitely. Our schools will be closed to students through June 16, 2020, our last student day. For the rest of the 2019-20 academic year we will deliver planned instruction online to students in their homes. While we look forward to when we can reopen for students and for our entire community, we appreciate your staying home at this time.
Finally, we hope that the warmer weather today has lifted your spirits! Take some time away from the news and from home learning to enjoy the weather this weekend if you can do so. We look forward to seeing our students online again next week.
