Student Teaching

Internship, Student Teaching, Practicum, Observation And Field Experience Procedures:

Hatboro-Horsham School District is committed to cooperating with colleges and universities within the state to assist in the training of student teachers and interns. The district will accept student teachers and interns by request from placement coordinators from accredited institutions with which the district has a cooperative agreement. Such agreements will provide that the university outlines the philosophy of the university program and is aligned with the expectations of the district. Cooperative agreements are submitted to the Director of Human Resources, Christine Welsh for approval.

Pennsylvania legislation requires all school volunteers to provide clearances. Pre-student teacher, student teacher, and counselor intern placement requests must go through the Curriculum Office and students must provide their clearances, dated within the year of placement,  andTB screening results. A letter from the student's professor or advisor describing the course requirements is also needed. Observations requiring only one day and teacher supervision at all times will be allowed to use a school visitor badge.

The following documents must be received by the Curriculum Office from the university or student prior to the approval of student teaching requests.

Student Teacher and Counselor Interships also require:

  • Unofficial Transcripts

  • Student resume

Send requests and documentation to Sandra Van Dorick.

Student placement requests will be sent to the cooperating teacher and building principal for review. All potential student teachers may be subject to a screening interview via email, phone or in person with the cooperating teacher prior to acceptance. The district reserves the right to terminate an agreement with a student teacher or intern should they violate or fail to comply with the school laws of the commonwealth or policies of the Hatboro-Horsham School District.
