• Today's students are digital natives and using technology is almost innate. As a result, a significant paradigmn shift must be made in schools to embrace and integrate technology effectively. Another reason for technology integration is the necessity of today's students to have 21st century skills.

    These 21st century skills include

    • personal and social responsibility

    • planning, critical thinking, reasoning, and creativity

    • strong communication skills, both for interpersonal and presentation needs

    • cross-cultural understanding

    • visualizing and decision making

    • knowing how and when to use technology and choosing the most appropriate tool for the task

Successful technology integration does not have a single blueprint. However, there are plenty of successful approaches that are worth a second and third look. As we’ve seen, one major advantage of technology — regardless of how or where it’s used in the classroom — is that it gives students a greater sense of autonomy and allows them to take charge of their learning.
