Peer Mediation Program
-
It is our goal to reduce conflict and violence in our school by giving students an opportunity to resolve conflicts through mediation. Mediation is a way to deal with conflict between individuals or groups using the resources of a third party (in our model Staff member and student) who is trained as a facilitator of the mediation process. The mediators role is to help all involved in the conflict:
- Communicate effectively
- Clarify information
- Understand each others perspective
- Develop possible alternatives
- Explore consequences
- Make decisions
It is important to emphasize that the mediation process does not judge right or wrong. It does hope to develop a solution that both students can live with. All discussions are confidential.
