  • Homeless children have the right to a free, appropriate public education (McKinney-Vento Homless Education Assistance Improvements Act of 2001)
    The Homeless Children's Initiative exists to help homeless children with a variety of services. If you are homeless with school or preschool aged children please contact one of the persons or agencies listed below for assistance:

    In addition, the Department of Education issues a Basic Education Circular (BEC) that  further explains the categories of children who are homeless and entitled to protections under federal law. The most recent BEC was issued on 2/3/2010. 
     
    Students who are identified under the McKinney Vento Act are eligible for Title I Services. More information information regarding eligibility Title I services can be found here.
