NEW TEACHER INDUCTION
The Hatboro-Horsham School District (HHSD) teacher induction program is a vital ingredient to the success of introducing new teachers to the district. The most important component of ensuring success for each student is the quality of our classroom teachers. The goal of the HHSD induction program is to welcome the new members of the Hatboro-Horsham School District Family, to promote instructional best practices, and encourage teachers to continue their professional growth.
This induction program is not meant to be the sole component in providing support for our new teachers. Evidence-based collaboration is an essential component of successful learning communities. Teachers come with varied backgrounds and professional development needs to be crafted to meet individual needs.
The Hatboro-Horsham School District induction program will focus on the following:
New teacher orientation - An orientation program begins the comprehensive program. It provides an opportunity to expand knowledge of instruction to affect student learning and to learn key information about the school district.
DistrictInduction and Building Induction sessions - Educators new to the building will be provided information to allow their work to be targeted to the students of the school.
Mentoring for the beginning educator - New educators without any experience are provided a mentor for their first year in the district. Mentors are selected by building administrators.
Year II Induction – Second-year inductees will engage in a combination of professional development sessions as well as focused independent learning opportunities.
Induction is a Pennsylvania Department of Education requirement. This program will meet PDE New Teacher Induction requirements for Level II Certification. The Induction Program offers new teachers the opportunity to learn the philosophy, programs, and practices of the Hatboro-Horsham School District. This program will also provide new teachers with the latest research and innovations in the field of education.
The goal of the Induction Program is to acculturate new teachers into the Hatboro-Horsham School District and help new teachers establish positive attitudes and perceptions about learning. The program will increase new teachers’ repertoires of instructional strategies that promote student achievement. All induction program requirements, including attendance at meetings and documentation of induction activities, must be completed and submitted at the end of each year.
