How can I apply?
We will be accepting free/reduced price applications via School Cafe beginning July 24, 2023 for the new school year. If you do not have access to a computer, please call 215-420-5971 and we will assist you through the application process. You only need to fill out one application for ALL enrolled students in your home. Please call the phone number listed if you have any questions.

Do I need to fill out an application for each child?
No. Only one complete application is required to apply for free or reduced price meals. Use one Free or Reduced Price Household Application for all students in your household. We cannot approve an application that is not complete, so be sure to fill out all required information. To fill out an application click here.

Who can receive free meals?
Children in households receiving Food Stamps or TANF and most foster children can receive free meals regardless of your income. Also, your children can receive free meals if your household income is within the free limits on the Federal Income Guidelines.

Can homeless, runaway and migrant children receive free meals?
Please call your child(ren)'s school to see if your child(ren) qualify(s).

Guardian Consent Process
Federal Law requires guardian consent before HHSD can share eligibility status for purposes other than the provision of free/reduced priced meals. Your decision to share will not in any way affect your eligibility status for Free/Reduced meals, it is optional. This selection should be made in the "Agreements" section of the Parent Portal.

PA Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer Information, P-EBT
Congress created P-EBT as a temporary response to help families cover the costs of breakfasts and lunches their children would have been eligibile to receive for free or rediced prices through the National School Meal proogram. This benefit has been extended through 2023. Below is the Family Guide for information.

This explains how we will use the information you give us. The Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act requires the information on this application. You do not have to give the information, but if you do not, we cannot approve your child for free or reduced price meals. You must include the social security number of the adult household member who signs the application. The social security number is not required when you apply on behalf of a foster child or you list a Food Stamp Program, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program, or when you indicate that the adult household member signing the application does not have a social security number. We will use your information to determine if your child is eligible for free or reduced price meals, and for administration and enforcement of the lunch and breakfast programs.
