• SAT versus ACT

    SAT
    • Offered SEVEN times per year
    • TEN sections to the exam
    • Math up to Geometry and Algebra II
    • Reading includes sentence completions, short and long critical reading passages, reading comprehension
    • Writing includes grammar usage, word choice, and a mandatory essay
    • Penalty - 1/4 of a point for each wrong answer on multiple choice questions
    • Scoring: 200-800 points per section with a total of 600-2400 points.  Essay points range from 2-12 points.

    ACT
    • Offered SIX times per year
    • FIVEsections to the exam
    • Mathup to trigonometry
    • Reading: four passages that include Prose Fiction, Social Science, Humanities, and Natural Science
    • English stresses grammar
    • Writing - the essay is optional
    • Science includes charts, graphs, and data interpretation
    • Penalty - none for wrong answers
    • Scoring: 1-36 for each subject averaged for a composite score.  2-12 points for the Writing Test
