Student Teaching

Hatboro-Horsham School District is committed to cooperating with colleges and universities within the state to assist in the training of student teachers and interns. The district will accept student teachers and interns from accredited institutions with which the district has a cooperative agreement approved by the Director of Human Resources. Such agreements will provide that the university outlines the philosophy of the university program and is aligned with the expectations of the district. Cooperative agreements are submitted to the Human Resources Department.

Due to new legislation requiring all school volunteers to provide clearances, students requesting observations or field experiences requiring more than one day or any form of interaction with our students must go through the Curriculum Office and provide their current clearances, dated within the year of placement,  and TB screening results. Students must also provide a letter from their professor on the course requirements. Observations requiring only one day and teacher supervision at all times will be allowed to use a school visitor badge.

The following documents must be received by the Curriculum Office from the university prior to the approval of student teaching requests.  Send request and documentation to Sandra VanDorick at
    • A letter from the university formally requesting the student teacher placement providing assignment dates, grade/subject, number of hours/days/weeks, and course requirements
    • Current clearances dated within a year of the placement request.
    • TB screening results
    • Transcripts
    • Student resume
    • A short essay on, "What is the responsibility of the teacher when a student is struggling to meet academic or behavioral standards?" (optional)

Student placement requests will be sent to the cooperating teacher and principal for review. All potential student teachers will be subject to a screening interview via email, phone or in person with the cooperating teacher and principal prior to acceptance. The district reserves the right to terminate an agreement with a student teacher or intern should they violate or fail to comply with the school laws of the commonwealth or policies of the Hatboro-Horsham School District.

The district will accept internship requests from students who are attending accredited institutions with which the district has a cooperative agreement approved by the Board. The following documents must be received by the Special Services Department.  Send request and documentation to Nancy Simon at
