Why College Shirt Days?

-
Why do we have College Shirt Days at Crooked Billet?

Here at Crooked Billet, we believe in instilling higher education in our students at an early age.  We want our kids to understand that they can select any career path in life of their choice, however, it takes an education to get them there.  So, once a month, teachers and staff members show their college pride by wearing shirts and hats of local and national schools (many of which they attended themselves).  Additionally, we highlight a college of choice during our morning announcements.  We don't just focus on the Ivy League Schools, we also promote two year community colleges along with select specialty trade and vocational schools that might peak the interest of kids.

When thinking about higher education most of the attention is spent on high school students and the immediate preparatory steps needed to enroll in, and pay for, college. Sometime the college discussions will start when a student is in middle school, but it is seldom that any proactive steps are taken until high school. But for a student to be truly prepared for college, parents and children need to begin thinking about, and discussing, higher education goals as early as primary school (Go College, 2012).

We encourage every student to participate in our College Shirt Days. While you're en route to your family vacation or visiting the city, stop by a store and pick up a college T-shirt for your child.  Even some of our local stores including Wal-Mart and Target carry T-Shirts and hats from our locally based schools.
