Lice (Pediculosis) Policy
Any student found to have head lice is excluded from school. The students entire class will be checked if in elementary school. If three or more students in the class are found to have head lice, a District policy letter will be sent out to the parents. Also, the entire grade level will be checked along with any siblings in the school. If any siblings are found to have head lice, the above procedure will be followed. If the student is in middle school or high school and three or more students are found to have head lice, the nurse will research the source of the problem and pursue as needed. Parents and guardians will be given specific instructions for treatment of head lice. The instructions will included how to treat the hair, how to remove nits, and the procedures for environmental clean up.
Parents and guardians will be instructed to bring students directly to the nurses office to be checked before being readmitted to school. These students are not to be put on the bus or brought to day care without being checked by the school nurse. Students will not be readmitted to school unless they are nit free (NO-NIT POLICY).
